Mohini Chatterji, Public Health PhD, Epidemiology
Mohini completed Dental School in India where she first realized her passion for rural health and outreach activities. While she enjoyed working as a Dentist, she felt like her true calling was working towards improving and uplifting the health of the entire community and not just creating smiles one person at a time. This is what led her to pursue the Master of Public Health program at West Virginia University, where she graduated from the WVU Public Health, Epidemiology PhD program.
Being accepted into the AHEC Rural Scholars Program was a dream come true for her as it brought her one step closer to her goal of being an Epidemiologist in rural West Virginia, and gave her the opportunity to have valuable insight into the issues currently plaguing the rural communities.
Her research focuses on HIV and opioid use, and being an AHEC scholar provided a hands-on approach to learning about rural health, which she knows has contributed to her competency in the field of Epidemiology. Mohini is also a lover of small-town life and slow living, and while she enjoys travelling and exploring new places, there is no place she’d rather call home than Wild and Wonderful West Virginia.
